Nigeria’s drive towards industrialisation received a significant boost with an investment of N20 billion by a beverage firm, Bogo Beverages, in the FMCG sector.
The new plant, sited in Ikorodu, Lagos, which will produce alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages and water, represents the opening of another production plant. According to the CEO, Godwin Oche, it signals growing confidence in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector despite the challenges the sector is facing.
According to the CEO, the factory, which will generate over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs for Nigerians, is a vital driver for Nigeria’s industrial development, economic diversification, and national prosperity.
The plant, with an installed capacity of 80,000 units, aims to stimulate local supply chains and support indigenous businesses by sourcing materials and services locally.
Describing the multibillion-dollar investment as a statement of the company’s long-term commitment to Nigeria and its confidence in the resilience of the Nigerian consumer market, Oche said the “ factory gives us the opportunity to capture value across multiple categories, accelerate our growth, and rebuild our business model around scale, efficiency, and local capacity.”
Representatives from the Lagos State Government and Nigeria Customs Service highlighted the broader significance of the investment. For Shobande, representing the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, agrees that the factory strengthens Nigeria’s industrial base and contributes to GDP.1
Richard Edzeama, Supply Director, who provided a detailed breakdown of the site’s operations, said the non-alcoholic facility features a high-speed bottling line with a capacity of 24,000 bottles per hour, while the alcoholic facility consists of two lines with a combined annual capacity of 1.3 million cases.
The Alajede of Ijede, Oba Rasaq (the local traditional ruler) expressed pride in the facility’s location within his domain. He praised the CEO’s “risk-taking spirit” and urged the company to maintain its high standards while continuing to foster a positive relationship with the local community.
