Diageo, world’s premium drink company, is organising its annual Africa Business Reporting Awards for 2013, marking the 10th year anniversary of the Awards. The Awards is initiated by Diageo to recognise journalists and editors who provide high quality coverage of the business environment in Africa. Since inception in 2004, the Awards has sought to recognise and reward excellence in business journalism. The Awards recognise the fact that a higher quality of business journalism plays an important role in framing Africa’s economic prospects and challenges.
In a statement, Seni Adetu, managing director, Guinness Nigeria plc, a subsidiary of Diageo, stated that, “The Economic landscape of Africa is rapidly changing and this is being reflected in the kind of stories that come out of Africa. We at Diageo are using this opportunity to recognise the extraordinary people behind the unique stories that have come out of the media in Africa and to also showcase these individuals to the world.”The Adetu also noted that it had been a decade since the inception of the awards and this year’s award was poised to be even bigger and better than previous years. Entries for the awards are in 10 categories and are open to reporters and editors working on all media platforms and they cut across information and communication technology (ICT), feature writing, business news, agriculture and environment, among others.
