Associations hold webinar for students to promote opportunities in geoscience

In a move to ensure that geoscience students and early geologists find relevance in the discipline, the Geological Society of America in partnership with the Nigerian counterpart is set to host a webinar to develop essential skills in advancing their careers.

Ester Sztein, director of international programs at the Geological Society of America, in a LinkedIn post emphasized the growing demand for geoscientists, citing a recent projection made by the American Geoscience Institute of a five percent growth rate in geoscience jobs over the next decade.

The director of International programs said this projection shows that there is a need to prepare the next generation of professionals.

Sztein also said that the association has partnered with its Nigerian counterpart to host a free webinar for students and early career geoscientists on July 1, 2024, at 7 pm.

Discussing the details of the webinar themed ‘International Opportunities and Career Pathways for Geoscientists,’ she said the event is designed to help participants develop essential skills to advance the geoscience career.

She added that the webinar also serves as a platform for students and early-career geologists to gain insights into emerging fields within geoscience, and learn valuable industry knowledge from professionals across Nigeria, Ghana, and the U.S.

She encouraged geoscience professionals to participate, saying that the question and answer session with the panelists would create an opportunity for participants to make inquiries and learn what they need to know.

“Don’t miss this opportunity to prepare yourself for success in the growing geoscience field,” she advised.
