The TEBA Foundation for Humanity has launched a major initiative to honour expatriates who significantly contribute to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

This initiative, The Expatriates Business Awards 2025, is powered by PR firm Quon Communications Ltd and will recognise top-performing foreigners who have built businesses and created jobs in Nigeria.

Scheduled for July 6, the event aims to deepen integration and appreciation of international entrepreneurs and investors who now call Nigeria home.

Speaking at a press briefing held in Lagos, Odunola Abayomi, Director of Awards at TEBA Foundation, said “These individuals have dared to invest and build on Nigerian soil. They are not just participants in our economy, they are architects of growth.”

She stated that the awards span over 30 categories, including Expatriate Entrepreneur of the Year, Multinational Oil Firm of the Year, CSR Brand of the Year, and Expatriate CEO of the Year. Others include recognition in aviation, technology, telecoms, beauty, and consumer goods.

Speaking further, Abayomi emphasised that the selection process is rigorous and based on public nominations, detailed research, and polling. “Integrity is our watchword,” she added. “We’re not just celebrating success, we’re honouring those who uplift Nigeria’s business landscape.

The awards, which began as the Ethnic Business Awards in 2020, have since evolved into a flagship platform that now targets expatriates exclusively. The maiden edition, featured notable personalities including Ghanaian actress Ella Mensah and popular host Daddy Freeze.

Despite initial challenges, including scepticism from high-profile nominees and logistical hurdles, Abayomi noted that the foundation’s strong follow-up and transparent communication helped build trust. “We visited nominees in person and made the case. Many eventually embraced the vision,” she said.

Expatriates are not only being recognised, they are also stimulating local commerce. According to Abayomi, the event has engaged dozens of Nigerian vendors including decorators, lighting technicians, and event planners, injecting cash into the local economy.

Also at the event, Irene Samuel, Head of Marketing Communications, Aero Contractors, one of main sponsors, said the airline views the awards as an opportunity to appreciate diversity and highlight the economic value brought by migrants.

“Nigeria’s expatriates contribute meaningfully to our GDP,” she said. “It’s only right that we recognize them. The award highlights the growing influence of foreign investors on the country’s economy,” she said.”

Samuel added that Aero Contractors, which also operates a major Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) center for aircraft, relies on expatriate expertise to train local talent and boost regional aviation standards.

“This initiative goes beyond celebration,” she said. “It’s about inclusion, growth, and recognising those who believe in Nigeria’s future.”

As the countdown begins, the TEBA Foundation is calling on the international community, corporate Nigeria, and the diplomatic corps to support the event, which promises a night of celebration, culture, and unity.

“This is a tribute to courage, innovation, and the power of diversity,” Abayomi said. “Let the champions be seen. Let history be made.”
