Growing a successful fashion brand can be a pretty tasking one. I mean, I totally understand how glamorous and interesting the sight of very notable and mainstream brands can be. The Creative Directors do not even make it easy for enthusiasts, if we’re being honest with ourselves. Today it’s Seychelles, then Dubai tomorrow.

We know how we all want that. You know, travelling, socializing, partying, living luxuriously attending wine tastings as well as private screening parties.

If one, two or more of these are your thoughts, be sure of one thing. The Fashion Industry is usually not as glamorous as it seems. What you see are years and more years of work, blood, sweat and tasking responsibilities.

● You have to really want it: This is the time and period where you take really personal decisions about how you want the turnout of events to be. At this point, it takes more than just passion and more craving to be successful with the brand. It requires loads of work and understanding. It’s a period where you become very intentional about the brand. This includes its aesthetics, ethos, silhouettes, style, short and long term goals, research on audience, and even marketing structure/strategies.
● Research: One very common mistake most Fashion design entrepreneurs make, whether they’re in business or out of business is that they failed to do their research about the industry. As a budding designer, you do not want to end up in making such terrible mistakes.

This means that you should be ready to research on, and understand your audience, their value proposition, niche market and the processes involved in building a very sustainable brand.
● Patience and consistency: Now, I understand that this is a part where we might not want to hear, but like every other good thing, building a sustainable and successful brand takes time to achieve. Therefore, you have to closely watch your steps, learn from each action taken, consistently push your brand, and be patient with the process. As earlier mentioned, what you see from already established designers are years and years of industry practice.

Agreeably, building a sustainable brand can be overwhelming most of the time. There’s always a number of things to be done, and you especially have to get it right if you want to limit your level of frustration. Think of it as birthing a baby. They cry loudly, poo and pee without permission creep carelessly and sometimes aimlessly, then schooled about things as they grow up. Any well raised child turns out really great. It’s the same for a fashion brand. You have to prepare your minds for experiences that are not beautiful, but think of them as stepping stones into higher heights.
