Unpopular attitude by fans of Wizkid, Burma Boy, Davido could end industry rivalry on ‘kingship’

Unpopular attitude by fans of Wizkid, Burma Boy, Davido could end industry rivalry on ‘kingship’

The aged-long rivalry and battle for the kingship of Nigeria’s music industry between Wizkid, Davido, and Burma Boy may be coming to an end sooner than thought because the three unique artistes have decided to drop the hatchet and embrace camaraderie.

With the development, more of the “who is better” contest created and highly amplified by followers will likely disappear from the mainstream because fans are also embracing the welcome development.

“From now on, no fights no more. Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, they are all kings and I just want to enjoy good music,” a fan tweets from his handle, @mrmanheree.

Throwing his weight on the social media debate, Frank Edoho, ace broadcaster, and TV host, said he is a Wizkid and Davido fan, and has all their albums and makes out time to stream whenever they release music.

A fan (@johnfaith673) asserted that you can love Wizkid, Burn Boy, and Davido at the same time, another, (@Davidsonoffor) said it was a “very rare privilege coming from the same country” with the three artistes, and called on fans of each to “show them love.”

The new-found feeling expressed by some fans was triggered by Wizkids’ latest album, Made in Lagos, released on Thursday night, October 29, 2020 around 11 p.m.

But there is, perhaps, more to this. To begin with, it could be that fans are probably outgrowing the rivalry and becoming more mature in their reviews to want to only enjoy ‘ good music’ irrespective of which singer it is coming from. Other reasons could be connected to the various contributions of the artistes in recent events—the protest— before the fallout.

Wizkid was the first among many celebrities who spoke out about the injustice and human rights violations when the protest was still online. His addressing the president as an “old man” in the course of redirecting his attention to the happenings in the country did not only trend but also pitched him in a verbal brawl with the president’s aide on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie.
