APC Governors ask El-Rufai to resolve industrial crisis in Kaduna

El-Rufai

Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called on the Kaduna State Government under the leadership of their colleague, Governor
Nasir El-Rufai to take all the necessary steps to ensure the resolution of all labour disagreements in the larger interest of citizens in the nation’s Centre of learning.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Monday commenced streets protest and enforcement of a five-day warning strike in Kaduna State to express its grievances against mass sack of workers by the Kaduna State government from the civil service.

The State Government is insisting that it would not be intimidated by the strike to shelve its plan to rationalize its workforce.

Reacting to the development, APC Governors under the auspices of the
The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) appealed to both the State Government and NLC to return to the negotiating table.

PGF in a statement signed by its Chairman and Governor Kebbi State,
Abubakar Atiku-Bagudu also appealed that given the dwindling revenue, all patriotic Nigerians, including the NLC, demonstrate more commitment toward engaging governments at all levels to address problems, hence “this is not the time for muscle flexing.

“Nigerians are already overstretched with many challenges. At this critical point of our democratic journey, there cannot be limits to engagement between all governments and citizens. Every step must be therefore taken to resolve the current faceup between Kaduna State Government and NLC.

“In particular, we want to appeal to the NLC leadership to recognise that the burden of leadership at this point is more about responding to challenges based on the honest disposition of correcting past mistakes. As Progressive Governors, we share the vision of Kaduna State Government of reforming all our Local Governments to make them more efficient and consequently the pivot of critical development initiatives”, the statement read in parts.

The PGF Chairman expressed confidence that both the Kaduna State Government and NLC will resolve all outstanding issues and restore industrial harmony in Kaduna State.
