The presidency on Wednesday clarified position on the state pardon granted to some former convicted Nigerians and said it was not the decision of President Goodluck Jonathan but that of the Council of State.
There was furore over the state pardon granted to former convicted politicians including former governor of Bayelsa State, Dipreye Alamieyeseigha who was jailed for embezzling state fund.
Senior special assistant to the president on public affairs, Doyin Okupe, on Wednesday explained that the Council of States which comprised the president, vice presidents, all former presidents, former chief justices of the federation, the leadership of the National Assembly and all state governors “did not take decisions on impulse but rather after due considerations of vital issues connected with taking such decisions”.
