Lagos is set to commence the enforcement of the state traffic law which mandates drivers of organisations in the state to secure certification from Lagos State Driver’s Institute (LASDRI) before driving on its roads.
The new traffic law makes it an offence for any professional driver in organisations in Lagos to drive in the state without the LASDRI’s re-certification. Under the law, an offender is liable to sanctions.
Kayode Opeifa, the state commissioner for transportation, who disclosed this on Monday, also informed that the government will tomorrow launch the driver’s education multi-lingua audio visual training materials produced by LASDRI. The launch is part of the 2013 Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), road safety campaign week with theme, ‘Driver’s health-key to safe driving’.
The state governor, Babatunde Fashola, will launch the materials tomorrow (Wednesday) titled ‘Defensive Driving’, with over 10, 000 drivers and stakeholders expected to attend the launch, at LTV ground, Ikeja.
From next week, Opeifa added that the traffic law enforcement agents would embark on arrest of any driver of an organisation that do not have LASDRI licence. The fines range from N50, 000 to N250,000.
