The National Planning Commission (NPC) on Tuesday restated its readiness to collaborate with the Chartered Project Management Institute of Nigeria (CPMIN) for effective monitoring of projects in the country.

Shamsudeen Usman, minister of National Planning Commission (NPC), said this in Abuja at a seminar organised by CPMIN with the theme, ‘Project Management as the Panacea for National Development’.

Usman was represented by the secretary of the commission, Fidelis Ugbo.

The minister said the seminar, which came at the beginning of the second half of the transformation agenda, would give the Federal Government the opportunity to effectively manage its priority projects.

“This seminar is being organised at a time when the focus of this administration is towards performance and guaranteeing results in all areas, projects inclusive.

“There is no gain saying that our national landscape is characterised with lots of abandoned projects”, Usman said.

The minister recalled that a report submitted by the Presidential Project Assessment Team revealed that the incidence of abandoned projects in the country was characterised by widespread institutional mediocrity.
