The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has directed Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police in charge of states to ensure adequate security throughout the Easter celebration.

In his Easter message on Thursday, Abubakar directed them to ensure that measures were taken to protect worshippers, travellers, holiday makers, as well as the public during the period.

“Command Commissioners of Police are to personally ensure that key and vulnerable points in their jurisdictions, including places of worship, recreation centres, motor parks, highways and financial institutions are adequately protected”.

The IGP wished Christians and other Nigerians a peaceful celebration and urged them to emulate the selfless attitude of Christ.

Abubakar reminded them that Christ victorious resurrection on Easter Day was preceded by painful crucifixion to redeem mankind.

He also called for “open-mindedness to issues of forgiveness, peace and harmonious co-existence in consonance with the teachings of Christ, especially at this trying moment in the history of our dear country”.
