The Delta government has directed contractors handling road and drainage projects in the state to pull down structures obstructing their work.

The commissioner for works, Funkekeme Solomon, gave the directive on Monday in Asaba while inspecting some road projects in the state’s capital and environs.

He expressed his displeasure over the cluster of buildings in the Infant Jesus area of the capital where contractors were finding it difficult to work on the roads.

He advised residents of the area to stop building on natural channels to avoid delay in completing the road projects.

Solomon warned that government would not hesitate to pull down structures that could hinder the construction of roads and drainage projects in the state.

He said that construction projects were being delayed as a result of illegal structures built on natural channels.

“If the people want their roads to be tarred, they must refrain from building on natural channels.

“We will pull down such illegal buildings when we face difficulties that will affect our ability to accelerate the construction of road and drainage projects in the state.
