Anambra government weekend embarked on the construction of four major roads in Iyiowa Odekpe community in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Peter Obi said it would cost the government more than one billion naira to construct the roads, which would cover about two kilometres.
Obi said that the cost was high due their swampy nature.
“We have mobilised the contractor and briefed him to consider the peculiarity of the terrain and do a job that would last even as we have paid more to ensure that the contractor delivers on quality, which would last up to 10 years.
“We believe that if the rains do not disturb the work, it would be delivered within four months because the contractor has finished the drains.”
Also, the state commissioner for works, Callistus Ilozumba, said government had awarded the contract to a competent contractor, IDC Construction Limited, because of the difficult terrain.
