The Super Eagles of Nigeria have suffered a significant setback ahead of their international friendly against Jordan, as first-choice goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been ruled out due to a thigh injury sustained during Monday’s training session in Antalya.
The 26-year-old Udinese shot-stopper, who put in an impressive performance during Nigeria’s 2–1 victory over Iran last Friday, is expected to depart the camp immediately to begin rehabilitation with his club in Italy.

Okoye is expected to return to his Italian club, Udinese Calcio, to undergo treatment ahead of the Serie A run-in.
The former Watford shot-stopper was in goal during Nigeria’s 2–1 victory over Iran last Friday, making his absence a disruption to head coach Éric Chelle’s preparations.
Okoye has established himself as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper under Chelle, and his withdrawal comes as a blow to the team’s continuity, even in a friendly fixture.
In his absence, Francis Uzoho of Omonia Nicosia is expected to start in goal, with Adebayo Adeleye providing backup.
Okoye’s injury adds to a series of disruptions in the Super Eagles camp. Defender Semi Ajayi has already left the squad, while Bruno Onyemaechi departed following the birth of his child, leaving Chelle with a reduced 21-man squad.
Nigeria will face Jordan at the Corendon Airlines Park as they continue preparations for upcoming international assignments.
