Ghana’s inflation kept going up in December, marking the fourth month in a row of increases. According to the official statistics office: “consumer inflation rose for a fourth month in a row in December, to 23.8% year on year from 23.0% in November.”
Samuel Kobina Annim, the government’s statistician, told reporters: “The rate of inflation… is the third highest in the last 13 months and highest in the last eight months.” He explained that food becoming more expensive was the main reason for this rise.

Ghana, which makes money from selling gold and cocoa, is having a really tough time with its economy – the worst it’s been in many years. Their new president, John Dramani Mahama, who just started his second term, has promised to fix two big problems: rising prices and the dropping value of Ghana’s currency. These issues have been making it harder for people to afford their daily needs.
