Stakeholders say rehab centres will mitigate drug abuse in Oyo

The Oyo State Government has been called upon to create the Rehabilitation homes and facilities which will be affordable and accessible, especially for the low-income groups as part of efforts to mitigate drug abuse and drug addiction.

The State Government is also advised to encourage and facilitate a good working relationship among sister security agencies by fostering co-operation through regular collaborative meetings and trainings.

These wère part of resolutions contained in the communiqué issued at the end of one-day Stakeholders Engagement Workshop held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

The Stakeholders workshop which was organised by the Oyo State Mobilisation Agency for Socio-Economic Development (OYMASED), had its theme, “Security in Our Roads, Safety in Our Neighborhoods,” brought together experts and participants to discuss pressing security challenges and strategies for socio-economic development.

According to thecommuniqué issued at the end of the meeting, there is need for stricter law enforcement to reduce accidents and improve road safety in the State.

While calling for the amendment of the Constitution of a body to review Borstal Institutions and Remand Centre Act 1961 for better rehabilitation of drug abusers, the communiqué urged schools to start having drug kits for early detection of drug to discourage youths in abusing it.

The communiqué also called for automation of offender identification through installations of cameras on roads and payment of fines within 48 hours.
