The amount, will see each polytechnic receiving N691.6m as against N427 million that was disbursed for 2015 while colleges of education will go home with N671 million each.
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Abdullahi Bichi Baffa, disclosed this in Abuja on Monday during a one-day stakeholder meeting with heads of tertiary institutions in the country.
Baffa, however, accused some heads of tertiary institutions of diverting money meant for teaching practice programme.
He said the money is provided by the agency to ensure proper supervision of trainee-teachers.
His words: “The injection of the intervention is to support the supervision of trainee-teachers to become professional teachers.
“But in quite a number of places, head of institutions have conceded to the pressure from unions and just taking teaching practice allowance as welfare.
“Whether teaching practice is done or not the money is just shared. This is not the intention of the intervention.”
Speaking further, Baffa said TETFund was thoroughly abused before the coming of the present administration which led to the sharp drop of normal allocation to tertiary institutions in 2015, adding that the 2016 allocation was more than three times what was given in the previous year.
While saying that TETFund will do everythng possible to ensure that its various massive interventions projects translate to desired results in manpower development and improved research, Baffa said the agency will no longer tolerate individuals who go around to influence allocation letters.
“We are still battling people who are running around as vendors and middlemen trying to buy allocation letters.
“The days anybody will bring allocation letters from beneficiary institutions are gone,” he said.
