Kwara APC stronger than ever, ready to win 2027 elections – Abdulrazaq

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, on Monday, declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State had grown stronger and was well-positioned to secure a resounding victory in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the APC Youth Engagement 2026 held in Ilorin, the governor reflected on the challenges his administration inherited in 2019, saying the government had successfully rebuilt key sectors and remained committed to sustaining the momentum.

The event featured the presentation of the party’s candidates for various elective offices before party leaders and supporters amid loud applause.

Governor Abdulrazaq described Salihu Yakubu Danladi, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and APC Governorship candidate, as a competent and experienced politician well-suited to succeed him at the Ahmadu Bello House in 2027.

According to a statement signed by Mashood Abdulrafiu Agboola, the Deputy Chief Press Secretary, the governor said Danladi had played a pivotal role in the achievements of his administration.

“SYD is part and parcel of this administration. All the projects you see today were appropriated under his leadership at the State House of Assembly. Some people go on television claiming he lacks experience. How can anyone say that a Speaker of almost eight years does not have experience? How can they acknowledge Kwara’s development while denying the experience of the person who oversaw the appropriation process that made it possible?” the governor queried.

He urged party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Our job has just begun for the next phase. Go back to your wards, zones and polling units and begin organising yourselves.

“We are not complacent, but our party is now stronger than ever, while the opposition is weaker than it was in the previous elections. Nevertheless, we must continue to work hard to secure victory. Insha Allah, 2027 shall be our year of victory,” he said.

Governor Abdulrazaq commended the large turnout of youths at the event and praised the organisers for their commitment to strengthening the party.

“I am delighted to see the impressive turnout of our youths today. It is a clear demonstration of your support for this administration and the candidacy of SYD.

“When we assumed office in 2019, Kwara’s economy was in a poor state. Education, healthcare and infrastructure had deteriorated. Civil servants were either unpaid or paid only fractions of their salaries.

“Our education sector had virtually collapsed. It was during that period that UBEC funds were diverted. Teachers abandoned classrooms for farming, school attendance declined drastically, and the entire system was in disarray. We came in, reversed the trend, and today Kwara is proudly counted among the leading states in Nigeria,” he explained.

The party’s candidates also expressed appreciation to the governor and the APC leadership at both the state and national levels for their support during the party’s primary elections.

Danladi, in his remarks, thanked the governor for entrusting the younger generation with leadership responsibilities and pledged to consolidate on the administration’s achievements if elected.

“I thank Your Excellency for believing in someone with legislative experience to lead the state. By the grace of God, we will sustain and improve on the transformation agenda that we have all been part of,” he said.
