Jaysplash20: Overcoming challenges of a Nigerian entrepreneur

2-110643

Without doubt, every entrepreneur faces their own fair share of struggles or challenges.

To be an entrepreneur means to be someone who takes on challenges. It is absolutely synonymous. It also means you are a problem solver.

For Judith Chinenye Edega, also known as Jaysplash20, the brain behind Jay & S Off-Site Ventures, a multi-media company, she wasn’t an exception.

The 26-year-old Enugu State indigene came, saw and conquered her terrain and has became one of the most sought after entertainment companies in Nigeria.

“In a highly competitive business environment like this, the major challenge I would say I had is attracting the right audience to my brand and converting them to undeterred Fans, strong believer, great supporters and followers. I overcome those challenges through confidence, competence and consistency. Those 3Cs really helped me in attaining this feat. Again, it is right to note that the major price I paid to become a reputable brand today was sacrifice (in term of my time and resources) and Consistency,” she told Business Day.

A graduate of Physical and Health Education at Federal College of education (FCE) Kano, yet Jaysplash20 found job fulfilment in the entertainment industry.

Wondering the inspiration behind her love for entertainment, she says, “The spice Entertainment adds to our daily lives can’t be overemphasized; it adds flavour to the human existence they may otherwise be distasteful. In my observations, I have noticed that entertainment helps us push through daily. It offers both momentary and long-lasting escape from unfavourable life happenings. Else life becomes very dull and boring. Entertainment is the flower vase at the centre of the table, the cherry that beautifies the cake. My all-time dream is to see smiles on people’s faces as they phase out their depression when they encounter contents from the stable of my entertainment hub. It’s important to also state that money is my motivation so of course the ROI on the entertainment business is also inspiring.”

With her wealth of experience, Jaysplash20, passed on an important advice to young people out there trying to build a brand as a creative entrepreneur, “Know yourself (self-awareness comes first before anything), competence (the more you know the more confident you’ll be as competence is the ability to apply your knowledge) and lastly consistency (be consistent, keep going no matter what, don’t give room for detractions, remain focus),” she noted.
