In a press statement released on Monday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said that it is set to conduct a mock accreditation exercise as part of its preparation ahead of the forthcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2023.
Among the key highlights of the statement, the Commission revealed that it would be conducting the exercise using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and uploading polling unit results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV). This follows a trend seen in recent off-cycle Governorship elections.
In the statement signed by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the commission explained that the mock accreditation exercise will take place simultaneously in the “three states on Saturday 14th October 2023, spanning from 8.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.”
A maximum of three polling units in each senatorial district has been selected for this exercise, covering a total of nine senatorial districts and 27 polling units.

The Commission added that “the lessons learned from this mock exercise will play a crucial role in ensuring a seamless and efficient process on Election Day.”
The Commission said that it has uploaded comprehensive details of the polling units, including their locations by Local Government Area (LGA), Registration Area (RA)/Ward, Delimitation Code, and the number of registered voters on their official website and social media platforms.
INEC also issued a public appeal to registered voters in the selected polling units, urging them to participate in the mock accreditation exercise by bringing their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs).
However, it was emphasised that this exercise is solely for testing and accreditation purposes and not the actual election.
