Imo PCRC donates transit camp to police

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Imo State chapter, national Gold Star Award winner, has donated a transit camp to the police, saying that the gesture is to reciprocate the good works the police are doing and enhance a good working relationship with the Imo people as well as ensuring that the rank and file on transfer to Imo do not suffer acute accommodation problem in the state.
This is as the Imo State Commissioner of Police (CP), Chris Ezike, has given the assurance that the command will do whatever is possible to protect lives and property in the state.
The transit camp is built inside the premises of the Shell Camp Police station close to the State Command Headquarters and Imo State Government House in Owerri.
The male camp is named ABC Transit Camp after the name of ABC Transport Company because of the financial role played by Frank Nneji, MD, ABC Transport Company, while the other arm is for females, although it is yet to be completed.
It has also a provision for a double bunk; a waiting room where television and other pleasurable facilities will be installed for the relaxation of the police on transfer to the state.
The chairman PCRC, Imo state, Chima Chukwunyere further presented brand new tires on behalf of PCRC to the police specifically to maintain vehicles assigned to the Police Public Relations Office.
Speaking with BDSUNDAY on what triggered off the building of the transit camp, Chima said: “One day, I was going to see the then PPRO and I was about to climb the staircase, I saw with my two eyes a young lady, a police officer changing her clothes under the stair case.
“I was grieved in my spirit; I was pained, I was not happy about it. When I left, I met the then PPRO and I told him that there was need for us to construct a transit camp for men of the police on transfer or on special duty, that was exactly what motivated us”.
While thanking God as he and other PCRC representatives took the Commissioner of Police, Ezike, round the building, he said: “We intend to put fan, we want to construct a double-bunk, there is a waiting room where we want to put a television so that when the officers come back in the night, they can put it on and relax without disturbing their roommates.
“So, the purpose is to tell the police that we appreciate them, they are all our friends, and they are working day and night to ensure that we sleep with our eyes closed”.
In his response, the Commissioner of Police, who felt highly honoured by what PCRC has done, said: “You have done much more than this, and the tyres also will be used for the specific job and for the transit camp, I have not seen it in many states. It is worthy of emulation, whenever you call on us we will always come to help. The foundation you are laying toady will become a mustard seed in the future”.
Earlier, the Imo PCRC chairman had presented a Nigerian-made vehicle called ‘Iyi Combatant 3.0 V6” made by an Engineer, Alex Ephraim Akwiwu who hails from Nwangele Local Government Area, Imo State and a member of the PCRC in the state.
Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview, Akwiwu stated that he was looking forward for resources to enable him mass-produce the “Iyi 3.0V6 Combatant” vehicle.
And in continuation of its help to ensure the well-being of the police personnel in the state, PCRC chairman presented a Police Traffic Warden, Magnus Nwakwuoke who was knocked down by a hit and run driver, and by an act of human kindness was picked up and taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri by a member of PCRC.
