The Federal Government of Nigeria, on Thursday, joined other countries to strongly condemn the killing of 58 unarmed Palestinian demonstrators at the Gaza border fence on Monday, by Israeli soldiers.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and signed by Tope Adeleye Elias-Fatile, spokesperson,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Government urged Isreali soldiers to stop the use of excessive force against unarmed civilians.

It would be recalled that the United States of America, last Monday, formally opened its embassy in Jerusalem amid protests in the Gaza strip.

The move on Monday followed US President Donald Trump”s recognition of Jerusalem as Isreal’s capital and the relocation of the US mission from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The statement reads; “The Israeli Government must stop such use of excessive force against unarmed civilians, including children, and respect the basic human rights of Palestinians
as well as international law”.
