Crisis has hit members of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Etsako East local government area of Edo State over commissioner nominee and other political positions slot submitted to the governor by leaders of the party in the area.
BusinessDay reports that members of the party expressed their dissatisfaction during a protest to the Edo State House of Assembly, the state headquarters of the party and Edo State Government House on Tuesday.
The protesting party members were armed with placards of various inscriptions such as, “we call for wards autonomy, No BOT in APC yet, no cabals in Etsako East APC, Adoga Sunday and Musa Afegbua must go” among others.
The spokesperson of the protesters, Oba Steven Peter from ward 8 of the local government alleged that one Sunday Adoga, local government of the party and his deputy, Musa Afegbua single-handedly sent the names of the nominees to the state governor, Godwin Obaseki.
He also alleged that some leaders of the party in the locality who were instrumental to the victory of the party in the just concluded governorship election in the state were now being schemed out in the decision making.
He also announced passing of vote no confidence on the leadership Sunday Adoga and Musa Afegbua as chairman and the vice-chairman of Etsako East local government area.
“They don’t represent us and should not preside over our affairs anymore. Anybody dealing with them on behalf of APC in our local government area does that in his or her own risk”, he said.
Peter also called on the state leadership of the party including the state governor, Godwin Obaseki for outright rejection of the list of nominees allegedly concocted in one Malik Afegbua’s bedroom and submitted by the party officials.
“The list is not from us and is designed to serve some parochial interest of those who do not care about the general interest of our party”, he alleged.
Other demand of the protesters was an all-inclusive process of nomination exercise in accordance with the party constitution.
The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Justin Okonoboh and Vincenin Odaze, State Organizing Secretary of the party who received the protesters at the Edo State House of Assembly and state secretariat of the party respectively assured them that their grievances will be channelled to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
