…quick passage of 2017 budget
The National Working Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has solicited the unflinching support of members of the House of Representatives for President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
The delegation led by John Odigie-Oyegun, APC National chairman, who met with the APC caucus in the House behind closed doors, solicited for quick passage of the 2017 Appropriation Bill and the $29.6 billion request for borrowing plan.
Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, one of the lawmakers who attended the meeting which lasted for about two hours, disclosed that the 2017 appropriation bill and $29.6 billion loan request from Presidency were part of the issues discussed at the meeting.
“We discussed many issues affecting the party and the nation generally. But specifically, the chairman appealed to members to ensure a quick passage of the budget so that the president and the party could implement its change agenda.
“The leadership also reminded members on the need to support the administration of President Buhari especially his efforts in ensuring that the nation comes out of the current economic recession,” the lawmaker who pleaded anonymity told select Legislative Correspondents.
Another lawmaker who also attended the parley added that the NWC delegation emphasised the need for party loyalty and supremacy.
“Essentially, the chairman was of the view that party supremacy should be accorded in place of honour in our great party. He also told us of the importance of working together particularly now that the PDP is in disarray.
“On our part (APC caucus), we gave them our words on our readiness to support policies of our government and help President Buhari to deliver dividends of change,” he disclosed.
Fielding questions from journalists after the meeting, Odigie-Oyegun commended the leadership of the House for the support given to Mr. President and the party at large.
He further confirmed that the delegation and APC caucus also discussed the progress of the 2017 Appropriations bill which is presently going through the legislative scrutiny.
“As you can see we are all smiling. We discussed general issues; the budget and the progress it is making. The fact that the House has been very supportive of the government and the party, we congratulate the Hon. Speaker and members for the way so far they have been behind Federal government and the party,” he said
