Passengers travelling on the Abuja-Kaduna-Abuja trains services have been re-assured of uncompromised safety while at railway stations on onboard the trains.

This assurance was by Yakub Mahmood, deputy director, public relations of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, (NRC) in a statement made available to BusinessDay last weekend while reacting to the reported stoning of a moving passenger train along the corridor.

This assurance was made by the NRC management in order to allay the unfounded fears and growing apprehension of passengers after the reported incidence of miscreants along the Abuja-Kaduna railway corridor engaged in an unwholesome act of stoning the passenger trains, as against the media reports of attack by gun men.

According to Mahmood, ‘’The corporation consider this as threat and a deliberate attempt to damage Federal Government property which is provided to alleviate the transportation problems of the country and also a source of employment to the people residing within the environment.

He said the the Nigeria Railway Corporation has taken some proactive measures through the deployment of additional security equipment and personnels to checkmate this uncivilised and unpatriotic tendencies.

In his words, ‘’To this end, the NRC is appealing to the youths, parents, guardians and especially the tradional rulers along the Abuja-Kaduna railway axis to assist in enlightening their subjects to desist from stnning moving trains in their’’.

The image maker noted that the train operations and services plying the route just like any other part of the country greatly facilitate the socio economic development of the area.

He warned that anybody caught disrupting train movement or in any way or endangering safety of passengers will be prosecuted according to the law of Nigeria.
