Governor Sanwo-Olu says LBE will last over 40 years

Lagos-Badagry expressway

As project works on the 10-way Lagos-Badagry expressway (LBE) started in 2009 intensifies, governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured that, the highway upon completion will last for 30 to 40 years.

While assuring Lagosians of it’s commitment to the construction of the road, the delay was due to the government’s plan to build a first-class infrastructure that people would be proud of upon completion.

In what could be interpreted as soothing balm to sufferings commuters that have for many years been passing through pains of vehicular gridlock and insecurity along the corridor, the state chief executive said, “I want to assure you that the Lagos-Badagry Expressway would be completed. The road was just a two-lane way, but the government has turned it into 10 lanes, 5 on both sides.

“We are doing a complete rebuild of the road, with over passes, under passes, bridges and interchanges. We are building a road that will last for 30 to 40 years for you. And because we know that this is an international gateway, it does not deserve anything less. We are building a first-class road infrastructure that all of you would be proud of’’.

For many years, driving along the Lagos-Badagry road regarded as an international gateway to other West African countries like Republic of Benin, Togo and Ghana is like traveling in a war zone. It gets terrible and worst during the rainy season.
