Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has arrived Namibia on a two-day official visit to the country to deepen the country’s bilateral ties with the Southern African country.
A statement issued on Sunday by Special Assistant on Media to the Minister, Sarah Sanda, said the Minister was met on arrival at the Hosea Kutako International Airport by Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Namibia, Lilian Onoh, and Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, Executive Director, Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of Namibia.
Onyeama is expected to meet with his counterpart, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to discuss bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest and concern to Nigeria and Namibia on Monday.
Nigeria and Namibia have enjoyed high level diplomatic relations since Namibia became independent in 1990, which was part of the robust friendship and solidarity Nigeria extends to sister African countries.
Namibia on various occasions acknowledged Nigeria’s role as a main force behind its independence and steady growth, which is why this visit is expected to open a new vista in the bilateral ties between both countries.
Nigeria stoutly supported South-West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) movement led by Sam Nujoma’s to upstage a puppet regime and install a democratically elected government in Namibia in 1990.
