Two vehicles weekend had their windscreens destroyed by angry youths in an attack on the Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, at Iyamho in Etsako West local government of the state.

The governor was at the community for the first convocation ceremony of Edo University, Iyamho.

The governor was allegedly attacked in front of the residence of the National at Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole.

The governor was leading personalities which included notable traditional rulers in the country, politicians and top management staff of the university immediately after the convocation ceremony to the APC national chairman house when they were allegedly attacked.

The relationship between Obaseki, current governor of Edo State, and Oshiomhole, a former governor of the state and current National Chairman of ruling APC, has been soured by an alleged struggle between the two over the control of the state.

Obaseki, who confirmed the attack to newsmen in an interview described the incident as unfortunate.

According to him, “it is really unfortunate that we can’t  feel safe at the house of our national chairman. I am not sure that if I went to the house of the national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, they will attack me the way they did in the house of our chairman”.

“It is really unfortunate that things have degenerated to this extent. I have forgiven those that attacked me, but in spite of what happened, we will continue to pursue peace and we cannot afford to lose the gains of the last three years”, he said.

But efforts to get reactions from Adams Oshiomhole were unsuccessful, but an eyewitness who pleaded anonymity exonerated the former governor of the attack on the state governor.

He said, angry youths in the community did carried out the attack as a result of the alleged “insult on the former governor by thugs allegedly imported from Benin to the community by the governor and his deputy, Phillip Shaibu.

“Yes, we the angry youths stoned the governor’s convoy when coming to our father Adams Oshiomhole house. Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, brought thugs from Benin to insult Oshiomhole in his house.

“This morning police tear gassed us and prevented us from gaining access to the school to witness the convocation because we were Oshiomhole people while thugs brought  from Benin were allowed to enter and also shouting anti- Oshiomhole slogans.

“This morning a loyalist of Adams Oshiomhole was allegedly walked out from inside the venue of the ceremony by the deputy governor”, he stated.
