IHS Towers has announced fresh sustainability milestones, revealing that it has invested about $45 million in communities since 2017 while expanding digital inclusion, clean energy projects and climate action initiatives across Africa and Latin America.
The company disclosed this in its 2025 Sustainability Report released in London.
IHS Holding Limited, also known as IHS Towers, said the report covered its sustainability activities between January 1 and December 31, 2025.

The company, one of the world’s largest independent telecommunications infrastructure providers by tower count, said it remained focused on helping to create a connected world where mobile connectivity supports economic growth and social development.
According to the report, IHS Towers continued to implement its four-pillar sustainability strategy focused on ethics and governance, environment and climate change, education and economic growth, as well as people and communities.
Sam Darwish, chairman and chief executive officer of IHS Towers, said the company remained committed to advancing digital inclusion and creating long-term value for stakeholders.
Darwish said mobile connectivity plays an important role in improving access to education and economic opportunities across emerging markets. He explained that the company’s 2025 Sustainability Report highlighted several community-focused projects across Africa and Latin America, including investments in health, safety, environment and community development.
According to him, IHS Towers has invested about $45 million in communities since 2017.
On environmental sustainability, the company said it reduced its Scope 1 and Scope 2 kilowatt-hour emissions intensity by about 21.4 per cent compared to its 2021 baseline.
The company also disclosed that it began planting more than 25,000 seedlings across nine hectares in Brazil’s Amazon region through a partnership with the Institute of Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Amazon.
In Nigeria, IHS Towers partnered with the Federal Capital Territory Administration under the “Project Breathe Clean Air-Abuja” initiative to encourage the use of clean cooking gas.
Through the project, about 5,000 households received liquefied petroleum gas cylinders and cookers.
The company also said it continued the installation of solar-powered streetlights in communities across Nigeria, donating about 700 units nationwide.
In another initiative aimed at rural empowerment, IHS Towers launched a pilot project with ApiFusion at two rural tower sites to support sustainable beekeeping and improve livelihoods in host communities.
On the social impact side, the company reported zero recordable work-related injuries or fatalities among its employees during the year under review.
It also disclosed that women accounted for 29 per cent of its workforce in 2025, up from 27 percent recorded in 2024.
Employees completed an average of 13 hours of training through the company’s IHS Academy during the year.
The report further showed that IHS Towers spent $8.2 million on community-focused sustainability initiatives in 2025 alone.
As part of efforts to improve digital inclusion, the company said it trained more than 140,000 students in digital skills through Nigeria’s 3 Million Technical Talent initiative.

The company also revealed that its literacy programme in Côte d’Ivoire reached about 100,000 children, while more than 9,500 students across Brazil, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia received STEM training support.
On governance, IHS Towers said its South African operation achieved a Level 1 rating in its Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment audit.
The company also maintained its ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management System certification across its operating markets.
In addition, 98 percent of employees completed annual anti-bribery and corruption training in 2025, compared to 96 percent recorded in 2024.
IHS Towers added that 7,861 supplier employees also completed training related to the company’s Supplier Code of Conduct as part of efforts to strengthen integrity across its supply chain.
