Funke Opeke, Rachel Adeshina, others urge more women in tech leadership

Female leaders in the tech ecosystem of Nigeria have urged more women to not only embrace technology as a viable career path but to aspire to leadership roles within their organisations.

Funke Opeke, founder and CEO of MainOne, while giving her keynote speech at the Uzemu Leadership Summit 1.0, shared her personal journey and highlighted the importance of resilience and diligence in pursuing a goal. According to her, women who display hard work and consistency will win in the industry.

Rachel Adeshina, chief Information Officer of First Bank who spoke on the theme “Women in Tech: A Rising Force” said that resilient and confident women in the tech world are not only thriving, they are an unstoppable force.

“When we shatter the barriers that hold us back, we illuminate the path for others to follow,” Adeshina said.

The Uzemi Technology Empowerment Initiative organised the maiden edition of the Uzemi Leadership Summit. Olatomiwa Williams, founder of Uzemi Africa described the summit as illuminating the path to change and empowerment in the tech sector.

“We envision a future where women take their place as a rising force in technology leadership. This event is just the beginning of our journey to manifest that future. With every summit, we draw nearer to breaking barriers, nurturing innovation, and empowering women in tech. Our commitment lies in fostering the leaders of tomorrow and bridging the gender gap in the tech industry,” Williams said.

The summit included a masterclass which was moderated by Olaide Isijola, senior Account Executive at Microsoft and a panel that featured Sandra Adebayo, social media/community manager at Technext; Obi Asika, Otm chairman and Ogo Maduewesi, CEO of Vitiligo Support and Awareness Foundation (VITFAF).
