Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has been handed a one-match ban and a €25,000 fine by the German Football Federation (DFB) for anti-sporting conduct.
The ban stems from an incident during the DFL Super Cup match against VFB Stuttgart last Saturday.
Immediately after the final whistle, Boniface showed his left middle finger to the Stuttgart players as he ran past them.
Despite the referee not witnessing the incident, the DFB’s disciplinary committee investigated and brought charges retrospectively. Both Boniface and Bayer Leverkusen have agreed to the ruling, making it legally binding.
“The sports court of the DFB has banned Victor Boniface from one DFB Cup match,” the federation stated in a press release. “He must also pay a fine of €25,000.”
The ban means Boniface will miss an upcoming German Cup match.
