Man Utd

Raphael Varane has officially confirmed his departure from Manchester United at the end of the season when his contract expires, ending his three-season spell at Old Trafford.

The highly decorated defender made a notable entrance to Old Trafford in August 2021 after transferring from Real Madrid, being warmly unveiled in front of our home supporters at the Theatre of Dreams just ahead of the opening weekend victory against Leeds United.

Having joined Man United from Real Madrid in July 2021 for an initial fee of approximately £34 million, the Frenchman has since amassed 93 appearances for the club.

During his tenure, the former France international played a pivotal role in securing the Carabao Cup for United in 2023, contributing to the triumph over Newcastle United in the final under the management of Erik ten Hag.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Varane expressed gratitude to United supporters, acknowledging the special bond he formed with the club and its fans.

“To you guys, supporters of Manchester United, it’s been an amazing few years playing for this special club and wearing that shirt,” Varane said in a post on social media.

“The first time I went to Old Trafford as a Man United player it was insane, the atmosphere was amazing. I fell in love with the club and the fans. You have to play for Man United to understand what that represents.”

Amid facing challenges throughout the season, Varane expressed optimism for the future of Manchester United, citing the clear vision and strategic approach of the new ownership.

“Despite the fact we had a difficult season, I’m very positive for the future. The new owners are coming up with a clear plan and a great strategy. I’ll see you at Old Trafford to say goodbye for the last home game of the season.

“It’s going to be a very emotional day for me, for sure.”

In response to Varane’s departure, United expressed gratitude for his service and extended best wishes for his future endeavours.

“Everybody at United thanks Rapha for his service and wishes him well for the future.”

Throughout his tenure at Old Trafford, Varane showcased exceptional class and experience on the field, contributing significantly to the team’s success, including the memorable Carabao Cup victory in 2023.
