Bayern Munich struck twice late to beat Real Madrid 4-3 on the night and seal a 6-4 aggregate victory in an exciting UEFA Champions League quarter-final.

The German champions will now face holders Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.

Madrid took the lead three times in a dramatic encounter in Munich, but Bayern responded on each occasion before late goals from Luis Díaz and Michael Olise finally ended the Spanish side’s resistance.

The visitors made a blistering start as Arda Güler capitalised on a misplaced pass from Manuel Neuer to score inside 34 seconds. Bayern responded quickly, with Aleksandar Pavlović heading home from a Joshua Kimmich corner.

Güler restored Madrid’s lead with a superb free-kick before Harry Kane levelled and edged Bayern ahead in the tie. However, Kylian Mbappé struck just before half-time to make it 3-2 on the night and level the tie at 4-4 on aggregate.

The second half remained finely poised, with both sides creating chances. Michael Olise came close, forcing a sharp save from Andriy Lunin.

The turning point came late on when Eduardo Camavinga was sent off after picking up two quick yellow cards, leaving Madrid a man down.

Bayern capitalised almost immediately as Díaz’s long-range effort took a deflection off Éder Militão and flew past Lunin in the 89th minute.

With Madrid pushing for an equaliser, Bayern broke forward, and Olise curled in a stunning finish deep into stoppage time to secure progression.

Tempers flared after the final whistle, with Güler shown a straight red card for confronting the referee.

It marks Bayern’s first knockout victory over Madrid in the Champions League since 2012, ending a long run of frustration against the Spanish giants.
