Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as their new permanent manager, making him the club’s third head coach of the season as they battle to avoid relegation.
The Italian takes charge immediately, signing a reported five-year deal after leaving Marseille in February. Spurs accelerated negotiations to secure his services now rather than waiting until the end of the campaign.

De Zerbi replaces Igor Tudor, whose interim spell lasted just seven matches following the dismissal of Thomas Frank. Tottenham currently sit just one point above the relegation zone with seven Premier League games remaining.
“I am delighted to be joining this fantastic football club, one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world,” De Zerbi said in a club statement.
“I am here because I believe in that ambition and have signed a long-term contract to give everything to deliver it. Our short-term priority is to climb the Premier League table.”
The 46-year-old built a strong reputation in England during his time at Brighton between 2022 and 2024, before moving to Marseille, where he guided the club to a second-place Ligue 1 finish last season.
However, his tenure in France ended prematurely after a disappointing Champions League campaign and a heavy domestic defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Spurs ended a 17-year trophy drought last season by winning the Europa League under Ange Postecoglou, but the Australian was dismissed after a 17th-place league finish. His successor, Thomas Frank, was also sacked following a run of poor results, paving the way for Tudor’s short-lived stint.
De Zerbi’s first game in charge will come away to Sunderland on April 12, with Spurs desperate to arrest their slide and secure top-flight survival.
