Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank after less than eight months in charge, following Tuesday’s 2–1 home defeat to Newcastle that left the club just five points above the Premier League relegation zone.

Spurs fans booed Frank and chanted for his dismissal during the loss at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The North London side sit 16th in the table and are without a win in their last eight league matches, their worst run since October 2008.

Tottenham have won just two of their past 17 Premier League games, collecting only 12 points in that period.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Spurs said it had been “determined to give Frank the time and support needed to build for the future together”, but admitted that recent results had forced a rethink.

“The club has made the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position, and Thomas Frank will leave today,” the statement reads.

“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.

“However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.”

European Progress Not Enough

Frank, who previously managed London rivals Brentford, replaced Ange Postecoglou in June 2025 and signed a contract until 2028. Despite overseeing strong performances in Europe, he was unable to significantly improve Spurs’ domestic form.

The Dane guided Tottenham to automatic qualification for the Champions League last 16 after finishing fourth in their group. However, that achievement was overshadowed by a league record of seven wins, eight draws and 11 defeats this season.

“Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward,” Spurs added.

“We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”
