Thibaut Courtois has officially expanded his off-pitch football portfolio after becoming co-owner of Spanish club Club Deportivo Extremadura.
The Real Madrid goalkeeper entered the ownership structure of the Almendralejo-based club through NXTPLAY, the sports investment platform he co-founded alongside entrepreneur Gonzalo Vila.

The deal will see NXTPLAY acquire a significant stake in the club and partner with current president Daniel Tafur, who will continue overseeing the club’s sporting and institutional operations.
The agreement arrives at a historic moment for Extremadura, which recently secured a remarkable fourth consecutive promotion to return to the Primera Federacion.
According to the club, negotiations over the investment had been ongoing for nearly a year before the operation was completed.
The move represents NXTPLAY’s second football investment after acquiring a stake in Le Mans FC, who also celebrated promotion this season by securing a return to Ligue 1.
Both clubs within the NXTPLAY network achieved promotion during the same campaign, strengthening the platform’s growing influence within European football.
In an official statement, Extremadura described NXTPLAY’s arrival as “a significant step” for the club while praising the group’s “ambition, vision and passion for football”.
“This agreement, nearly a year in the making, comes at a pivotal moment for the club,” Extremadura said.
“CD Extremadura has just achieved its fourth consecutive promotion and returns to the Primera Federacion, setting a record in Spanish football that highlights the strength of its sporting and institutional project.”
Courtois is no stranger to football ownership projects. The Belgian international previously collaborated with Borja Iglesias and YouTuber DjMaRiiO at Internacional de Madrid, which later became DUX Internacional de Madrid before collapsing amid financial problems in 2022.
Earlier this season, Courtois officially joined NXTPLAY, a platform that also includes sports stars such as Novak Djokovic, Felipe Massa and Kevin Magnussen among its investors.
