Nigeria’s Super Eagles are not yet ready to face Zambia, the new technical adviser, Gernot Rohr said over the weekend.

Rohr admitted that much preparation is still needed to get the team ready for the task of qualifying for the World Cup which is scheduled for Russia in 2018.

Speaking after Nigeria narrowly defeated Tanzania 1-0 in a Gabon 2017 African Nations Cup qualifier, Rohr said the team’s performance against the Taifa Stars was encouraging, adding, however, that the attack and defence still needs a lot of work to get it in the right shape to defeat Zambia.

Rohr who promised to build a new team admitted that the process has started already.

“We are a new team and just getting to know each other but I know my players have the quality to play good football,” he said.

“Their goalkeeper was excellent. He denied us many opportunities to score. But our quality is not in doubt.

The Super Eagles are billed to play their first Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier against Zambia on October 3 in Ndola.
