Jordan, ranked 64th in the world and preparing for a historic maiden World Cup appearance, started on the front foot.

Their early intent paid off in the 17th minute when a well-rehearsed free-kick routine exposed Nigeria’s defence, allowing Mousa Tamari to fire them into the lead.

The Super Eagles responded positively and drew level in the 30th minute. Stand-in captain Moses Simon, earning his 97th cap, reacted quickest after Ademola Lookman’s initial effort was blocked, finishing calmly for his second goal in as many matches.

Chelle’s side completed the turnaround four minutes before the interval. Bright Osayi-Samuel delivered a precise cross that found debutant Emmanuel Fernandez, who showed composure beyond his years to control and finish clinically, giving Nigeria a 2–1 lead at half-time.

The second half took on a more physical edge. In the 57th minute, goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was forced off following a heavy clearance, with Adebayo Adeleye introduced in his place.

Chelle reshuffled his midfield, bringing on Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi for Yira Sor and Onyedika. Iwobi’s appearance marked his 98th cap, moving him closer to the century milestone.

Jordan, however, maintained their intensity and were rewarded in the 77th minute with a deserved equaliser, underlining their growing stature on the international stage.

Nigeria pushed for a late winner, handing a senior debut to Philip Otele, while Samuel Chukwueze replaced Simon to add attacking impetus.
