Crisis has hit the Super Eagles’ camp in Rabat, Morocco, after players boycotted Tuesday’s training session ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoff clash against Gabon, over unpaid allowances and bonuses owed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“Once a resolution is found, we will be the first to confirm,” Ekong wrote.
“Any other statement or claim, especially demands other than the rightful request written about below, is false. All we want and continue to do is focus on the big games ahead.”

According to reports, the players are still being owed allowances for qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as well as other entitlements linked to the 2026 World Cup playoff.
Earlier reports suggested that the standoff was due to players demanding special bonuses for the playoff matches, but Ekong’s clarification indicates the dispute revolves around unsettled payments from previous competitions.

Sports journalist Sulaiman Adebayo (Pooja), reporting from the Eagles’ camp, had initially claimed that the disagreement was over new allowances proposed for the Morocco playoffs.
The NFF has yet to issue an official statement on the matter as of the time of filing this report.
The dispute, if unresolved, could disrupt Nigeria’s preparations for Thursday’s crucial clash against Gabon and affect their push for a 2026 World Cup ticket.
