Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United, has praised interim head coach Michael Carrick for doing an “excellent job” since taking charge of the team.
Carrick, a former United midfielder, stepped in after the sacking of Ruben Amorim in January and has overseen a significant upturn in form.

Under his guidance, United have won six of their last eight matches, collecting more points in that period than any other club in the Premier League, including leaders Arsenal.
Speaking for the first time about Carrick since his appointment, Ratcliffe told Sky Sports: “He is doing an excellent job, yes, absolutely.”
United’s resurgence has led to growing calls for Carrick to be considered for the role on a full-time basis. However, Ratcliffe declined to discuss the possibility of offering the former England international the job permanently.
“No, not going there,” Ratcliffe said when asked about a long-term appointment.
United entered the weekend sitting third in the league with nine games remaining, putting them on course to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since finishing third in the 2022/23 season.
“Clearly, we are thinking about that, but there are still seven or eight games to go, so there is still a while yet,” Ratcliffe said.
If Carrick succeeds in guiding Manchester United back into the Champions League, it could strengthen his case to remain in charge beyond this season.
However, Ratcliffe and the club’s board are cautious about making their next managerial appointment after recent setbacks.
