Paris Saint-Germain ended their long quest for Champions League glory as they demolished Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Achraf Hakimi and Desire Doue put PSG two goals up inside 20 minutes as Luis Enrique’s stylish side put Inter to the sword in a dominant first half.

It felt like Inter needed a miracle at half-time, but their task became even harder when the 19-year-old Doue finished off a devastating counter-attack shortly after the hour.

The French giants’ only European trophy came when they won the 1996 Cup Winners’ Cup, and the Champions League has been the stated goal ever since the Qatari buyout in 2011.

PSG came close in 2020, losing to Bayern Munich in the final, and a vibrant young side led by their passionate Spanish manager were determined to lift the elusive trophy for the Les Parisiens.

Inter, who lifted the European Cup in 1964, 1965 and 2010, had an unfinished business in the UCL after defeat by Manchester City in the final two years ago.

Inter in their second appearance in the final in three seasons, went toe to toe with Manchester City in Istanbul in 2023, losing 1-0 to the English side.

However, Inter have been embarrassed in Munich by a more youthful and vibrant Les Parisiens.

PSG finished 15th in the League Phase of the Champions League, qualifying for the knockout phase play-off round.

Les Parisiens thrahsed Brest 10-0 to reach the last-16 stage, and then knocked Liverpool out on penalties in the quarter-final.

The Paris side also edged past fellow English side Aston Villa 5-4 on aggregate in the quarters before beating Arsenal in both legs in the semi-finals.

The French champions went into the clash on the back of winning the Coupe de France, a result that extended their winning streak to four matches in all competitions.

Inter on the other hand ended up fourth in the League Phase, qualifying directly for the last-16 stage, where they comfortably eased past Feyenoord 4-1 on aggregate.

A thrilling 4-3 quarter-final triumph over Bayern Munich was then followed by a sensational 7-6 aggregate success over Barcelona in the semi-finals.

The Nerazzurri defeated Como 2-0 last time out, making it six games without defeat in all competitions, but that victory was not enough to win Serie A as they finished one point behind champions Napoli.
