Former Shooting Stars striker Sunday Adetunji has reportedly dumped Nigeria and pledged his international allegiance to Sudan, marking a significant step in his football career.

Adetunji currently plays for Al-Hilal Omdurman, where he has continued to impress with his performances in Sudanese club football.

The 26-year-old has established himself in the country’s domestic football scene, making him eligible to feature for the Sudan national team.

Before moving to Sudan, Adetunji joined Serbian side FK Čukarički in September 2023 and announced himself with a spectacular debut goal against Red Star Belgrade while also winning a crucial penalty in the same match.

Having built a reputation as a consistent attacker during his time in the NPFL, the striker’s decision to switch allegiance opens a new chapter as he seeks to make his mark on the international stage with Sudan.

Adetunji’s decision underscores a growing trend of players with Nigerian footballing roots opting to represent other African nations where they have established deep club connections.

The move also highlights the growing influence of players with Nigerian football backgrounds across African football leagues and national teams.
