Nigeria drawn in tough group for 2024 CHAN

Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles and 2018 CHAN silver medalists have been drawn into a tricky Group D alongside Senegal, Sudan, and the Republic of Congo for the rescheduled 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Originally set for 2024, the tournament has been moved to August 2025 but will still be hosted jointly by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

The draw ceremony, held at the iconic Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi on Wednesday evening, revealed the group stage pairings for the competition.

Joint hosts Kenya will headline Group A, which also features 2018 CHAN winners Morocco, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia. Kenya and Morocco will face off in the tournament’s opening match.

Group B, led by Tanzania, will see the hosts take on Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic, who famously eliminated Cameroon in the qualifiers. Only two teams will progress to the knockout stages.

Uganda, the third joint-host, will compete in Group C against Niger Republic, Guinea, and two additional teams to be confirmed via wild cards issued by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Group D, where Nigeria will aim to make an impact on their return to the CHAN. With only the top two teams from each group advancing, the Super Eagles B face a tough road ahead but will rely on their talent and determination to navigate their way past Senegal, Sudan, and the Republic of Congo.

GROUP B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic
