Morocco guaranteed $31.5m in FIFA prize money after quarter-final berth

North African giants Morocco have earned a minimum of $31.5 million in total prize money from FIFA after making history yet again and booking a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Atlas Lions booked their place in the last eight with a commanding 3-0 victory over Canada on Saturday at Houston Stadium.

Azzedine Ounahi scored twice in the second half before Soufiane Rahimi added a late third goal to seal Morocco’s passage into the quarterfinals for the second consecutive FIFA World Cup.

Morocco will now face France for a place in the semi-finals.

FIFA approved a record $871 million prize pool for the expanded 48-team 2026 World Cup, the highest financial distribution in the tournament’s history.

Under FIFA’s payout structure, teams eliminated in the quarterfinals (finishing between fifth and eighth) receive $19 million in performance prize money, a figure Morocco have now guaranteed.

In addition to the performance bonus, every qualified nation receives $10 million in qualification funding and $2.5 million to support tournament preparations.

This takes Morocco’s guaranteed earnings to $31.5 million, regardless of the outcome of their quarterfinal clash against France.

The Atlas Lions stand to earn even more if they progress further in the competition. A fourth-place finish would increase their performance prize money to $27 million, while the third-placed team receives $29 million.

The World Cup runners-up will earn $33 million, while the 2026 champions will receive $50 million in performance prize money.

Including FIFA’s qualification and preparation payments, total earnings would rise to $39.5 million for fourth place, $41.5 million for third place, $45.5 million for the runners-up and $62.5 million for the World Cup winners.

Morocco will look to keep their historic run and the cash flow alive when they take on European powerhouse France next Thursday at Boston Stadium.
