AC Milan’s hopes of signing England international Marcus Rashford on loan this January have taken a hit, with Manchester United unwilling to subsidise the forward’s wages, according to reports from Sky Sport Italia.
The 27-year-old Man United academy graduate is reportedly earning around €13 million per season, making it challenging for Milan to absorb the full financial burden. A loan deal for the remainder of the 2024/25 season would cost the Rossoneri approximately €7 million in wages alone.
United had shown some flexibility by proposing a loan deal with an option to buy rather than an obligation, but Milan had been hoping the Premier League club would share part of Rashford’s salary.
The refusal to contribute wages complicates Milan’s efforts, as they continue to explore avenues to strengthen their attack during the January transfer window.
Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona are also interested in Rashford but share Milan’s concerns over the wage structure, making negotiations with United a delicate balancing act for all parties involved.
While the situation remains fluid and subject to change, United’s current stance poses a significant obstacle to Rashford’s potential departure this winter.
