Kylian Mbappe delivered a masterclass performance on Sunday, scoring twice and leading Real Madrid to an emphatic 4-1 victory over Las Palmas, propelling the reigning champions to the top of La Liga.
Los Blancos capitalised on a perfect weekend, surpassing Atletico Madrid by two points after their city rivals stumbled to a shock defeat at Leganes on Saturday. Meanwhile, Barcelona, sitting third, were held to a draw at Getafe.
Despite Fabio Silva giving Las Palmas a dream start with an early goal after just 30 seconds, Mbappe equalized from the penalty spot following a foul on Rodrygo by Sandro Ramirez. Brahim Diaz then converted Lucas Vazquez’s cross to put Real ahead, before Mbappe showcased his class with a sublime finish, notching his 12th league goal of the season and securing a commanding first-half lead.
Rodrygo added further gloss to the scoreline in the 57th minute, tapping in Fran Garcia’s cutback to seal the victory.
Mbappe later took to Instagram to rally the fans, stating, “I think we have to be united, and like that, we can go for all the trophies.”
Real Madrid now shift focus to their Champions League clash against Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday.
