Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has emerged as a potential candidate for Olympique de Marseille managerial position following Roberto De Zerbi’s departure on Tuesday.
The Ligue 1 club are in the market for a new manager after confirming that De Zerbi left by mutual agreement.
The Italian’s exit came on the back of a heavy 5–0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and a disappointing UEFA Champions League campaign.

Since taking charge of the Super Eagles in 2024, the 48-year-old Malian-Frenchman has overseen a period of steady progress.
He helped the Super Eagles of Nigeria finish third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), earning plaudits for improved tactical structure and cohesion.

While no formal approach has been made to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), sources close to the situation indicate that Chelle’s name has been discussed internally at the Stade Vélodrome.
Marseille is reportedly considering several candidates to stabilise a squad currently sitting 12 points behind league leaders PSG.
For Chelle, the move would represent a high-stakes return to French football, where he spent the vast majority of his professional playing career.
