Manchester United are on course to become the first Premier League club to earn £1 billion in prize money.

According to a new study by Spreadex, United have earned £870.2 million in Premier League prize money since the 1992-93 campaign and are set to surpass the £1bn mark if they finish in the top eight next season.

This season, Arsenal received £100.9m in Premier League payments, while champions Leicester City were given £93.2m.

Despite finishing bottom of the league, Aston Villa still received £66m.

As from next season, clubs will be guaranteed at least £100m in prize money, regardless of where they finish in the table.

In the last 24 years, the Premier League has paid out £14.8bn in prize money, with £1.64bn split between clubs this term.

Manchester United lead the way in winning the most prize money since the Premier League began, with Arsenal second and Liverpool third.
