Manchester City have confirmed that Bernardo Silva will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, bringing an end to a hugely successful nine-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.
The 31-year-old Portuguese playmaker joined City from AS Monaco for £43 million in 2017 and quickly became a central figure under Pep Guardiola, evolving into one of the most intelligent and versatile midfielders in European football.
During his time at the club, Silva made over 450 appearances, contributing 76 goals and 77 assists while helping City secure 15 major trophies.
His honours include six Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League crown and multiple domestic cups, underlining his importance in the most dominant era in the club’s history.
Silva was instrumental in Manchester City’s historic 2022/23 treble-winning campaign, as Guardiola’s side lifted the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles.
He also played a key role in other landmark achievements, including the “Centurions” season and four consecutive league titles.
Silva recently broke into the top 10 of Manchester City’s all-time appearance makers, overtaking club greats such as David Silva, Paul Power and Willie Donachie.
In a statement, the club said Silva would be “deservedly remembered as one of City’s finest and most popular players,” while noting that he remains focused on finishing the current campaign strongly, with City still competing for the Premier League and FA Cup titles.
Silva leaves as a defining figure of City’s golden era and one of the club’s most influential modern players.
