Lamine Yamal has been ruled out for the rest of the domestic season after suffering a hamstring injury, but is expected to recover in time for the FIFA 2026 World Cup, Barcelona confirmed.

The 18-year-old picked up the injury while converting a penalty in Barcelona’s 1-0 LaLiga win over Celta Vigo on Wednesday. He later limped off with assistance from the medical staff, prompting concerns over his fitness.

A club statement on Thursday read: “Tests have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has suffered a hamstring injury in his left leg. The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. He will miss the remainder of the league season but is expected to be available for the World Cup.”

Yamal has been in outstanding form this season, registering 16 goals and 11 assists in 28 LaLiga appearances, alongside six goals and four assists in 10 Champions League matches.

A key figure for the Spanish national team, Yamal was named Young Player of the Tournament at Euro 2024 and has scored six goals in 25 international appearances.

Barcelona, meanwhile, must continue its LaLiga title push without him. Their win over Celta Vigo moved them 9 points clear of Real Madrid with 6 games remaining. However, they were eliminated from the Champions League at the quarter-final stage by Atlético Madrid.
